Julius Sabbe was een zoon van de Gentse haarkapper Charles Sabbe, afkomstig uit Pittem. Na zijn studies aan de Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte aan de Rijksuniversiteit Gent werd hij in 1869 aangesteld als leraar Nederlands aan het Koninklijk Atheneum in Brugge..
Peter Benoit (Harelbeke, 17 augustus 1834 – Antwerpen, 8 maart 1901) was een Belgische componist en muziekpedagoog. Hij is bekend voor zijn ijver voor de vervlaamsing van het muziekonderwijs en werd de eerste directeur van het Koninklijk Vlaams Muziekconservatorium van Antwerpen.
